A Season On The Brink (John Feinstein, Macmillan, 1986, 311 pages)

I read John Feinstein's A Season on the Brink when it was first published in 1986.  My dad was a fan of Bob Knight and the Indiana Hoosiers and it rubbed off on me.  I followed Knight through much of his career.  Casual observers tend to think of him only in extreme terms: incredible coach or angry loudmouth.  I think Knight deserves a much more nuanced and fairer evaluation.

Season on the Brink is still, in my mind, one of the best pieces of sports biography and writing.
